⛓ Blinded In Chains is the name of my album, but also of the song that introduces it. It's also an Avenged Sevenfold song really... it has nothing to do with it but I've always liked that title. Actually the name of my album is taken from Blinded, which is the name of the first EP released with my former metal band, Scyther.

Why did I want to use that name again? Because almost all the songs on my album are actually the first Scyther songs taken up and resounded in the new genre of dark electronic music I've thrown myself into.

But not this song. This is totally new and written specifically to introduce the album. Slow, patient, dark, intriguing. I've done this to bring you into my world. A city where the glittering glaze of the futuristic metropolis hides ruined suburbs, where people live chained to a social and economic system that sees them as unaware slaves.

This is why I added "in chains" to the adjective "blinded". The strongest chains are often those of the mind. Because they are sneaky, almost invisible. You don't see them until someone shows them to you. We are often blind to such obvious realities.

And it seemed ironic to me to think that often those who are truly blind actually have fewer mental chains holding them down. Maybe because by removing our sight we are less affected by what surrounds us? ⛓
